Taku多久市

Skip Taku unless you have a specific interest in Confucian history: the Seibyō temple is the draw but the town offers little else for a traveller. A half-day stop from Saga or Karatsu is enough.

Taku is a small city of 18,000 people in Saga Prefecture, best known for Taku Seibyō, a Confucian temple from 1708 that is one of the oldest original Confucian temples in Japan and a designated Important Cultural Asset. Beyond the temple and a few local festivals, the town has limited sights and services for international visitors. Most travellers pass through on the Karatsu Line or use it as a quiet stop between Saga and Karatsu.

Rules in force · 5
  • East Asia ↗Every border in East Asia is a full international border, Hong Kong and Macau included: an entry permission for one never covers the next.
  • East Asia ↗Ferries between Korea, Japan and China cancel in rough seas and typhoons; keep a flight or a spare day behind every sea leg.
  • Japan ↗IC cards (ICOCA/Suica) are topped up with cash at station machines.
  • Japan ↗Smoking while walking is banned in most city centres; use designated areas.
  • Japan ↗Shinkansen bags 160–250 cm (L+W+H) need a seat reserved with the oversized-baggage area.
