Getting across
- Marshrutka from Tbilisi (Ortachala or near Avlabari) to Yerevan, about 5–6 h.
- Shared taxis from the same stations, faster and a little dearer.
- The overnight Tbilisi–Yerevan train runs mainly in summer (check).
Scams and traps
- Taxi drivers who quote per person and charge per seat plus luggage.
- Poor exchange rates at the post: change in Tbilisi or Yerevan.
Tips
- Car insurance for Armenia is bought at the border if you drive.
- Stop at the Haghpat and Sanahin monasteries on the way.
