Virudhunagar district is a working corner of southern Tamil Nadu: match and firework factories, cotton and textile markets, and a cluster of old temple towns. The town is a rail junction on the Madurai–Tirunelveli line, so it works as a base rather than a destination. Sleep here one night, see the market and a temple town, then move on.
