Bungendore

Give Bungendore half a day on the Kings Highway, or one night if you want a truffle hunt or a winery lunch: the village itself is a 15-minute walk.
Bungendore is a small Southern Tablelands town on the Kings Highway, 40 minutes from Canberra and on the Sydney–Canberra rail line. Its colonial grid holds galleries, antiques, bakeries and pubs within a few flat blocks, while the surrounding farms run truffle hunts and cool-climate vineyards. Most travellers see it as a highway stop; it earns a night only if you book an agritourism experience.

About Bungendore
Bungendore is a small town in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales, roughly 40 minutes from Canberra by road. It sits on the Kings Highway between Canberra and Batemans Bay, and trains between Sydney and Canberra also stop there. The flat colonial grid centres on Gibraltar Street and Malbon Street, with galleries, cafes and historic buildings packed into a few walkable blocks.
The town serves the surrounding farming district, which produces fine wool, cattle and cool-climate wine, and it has become a commuter base for Canberra and for staff at the nearby HQJOC defence base. A self-guided heritage walk covers buildings dating back to 1837, and the wider area offers vineyards and truffle hunting that need a car to reach.

- Oceania ↗Oceania's island states guard their farms and reefs at the border: tick 'yes' on the arrival card for any food, plant, animal product, soil or used outdoor gear, and let the officer decide.
- Oceania ↗Across the tropical South Pacific, cyclones are possible from November to April: choose insurance that covers weather delays and keep one spare night before a long-haul departure.
- Australia and New Zealand ↗Both countries drive on the left, with long distances between fuel stops in the outback and on New Zealand's back roads; fatigue causes more visitor crashes than speed.
- Australia ↗Almost every visitor needs a visa or an electronic authorisation (ETA or eVisitor, depending on passport) before boarding: apply only through the official Department of Home Affairs site or the official AustralianETA app, and check the rules for your passport.
- Australia ↗Declare all food, plant material, seeds, wood and animal products on your arrival declaration; undeclared items can bring on-the-spot fines or visa cancellation. When unsure, declare it.
- Australia ↗Drive on the left. An overseas licence in English (or with an official translation or International Driving Permit) is accepted for visitors; check the state rules and your rental contract.
- Australia ↗Swim between the red and yellow flags on patrolled beaches; rip currents cause most beach drownings.
