Chatham-Kent
Go for one full day by car: Buxton and Uncle Tom's Cabin in the morning, downtown Chatham by late afternoon. Without a car, skip it.
Chatham-Kent is a spread-out municipality of small towns between Windsor and London, about 104,000 people, with no single walkable core. Its draw is Black history from the Underground Railroad era, at Buxton and Dresden, plus farmland, wineries and Lake Erie shoreline. You need a car and one day; two if you add Rondeau or a festival.

About Chatham-Kent
Chatham-Kent is a southwestern Ontario municipality of 104,000 people (2021) that takes in the old city of Chatham plus Blenheim, Dresden, Ridgetown, Tilbury and Wallaceburg. It lies between Windsor and London, and its towns each keep a separate downtown rather than merging into one core. The area is known for its place on the African-Canadian Heritage Tour and its role in the Underground Railroad, with sites at Buxton and Dresden. Farmland, Lake Erie shoreline and rural roads shape the rest of the landscape.
Most sights sit outside the towns, so a car is the practical way to move between them; Highway 2 and Highway 3 are the old routes through the municipality. Trains stop in Chatham on the Windsor-Toronto line, and buses connect to Detroit, Windsor, London and Toronto.

- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- Canada ↗Visa-exempt travellers flying to or through Canada usually need an eTA; check your passport on the official Government of Canada site (canada.ca) and apply only there.
- Canada ↗A Parks Canada pass is needed to stop in national parks such as Banff and Jasper; some spots (for example Moraine Lake) are reached only by shuttle or tour, so book ahead.
- Canada ↗Keep well away from bears, elk and moose; carry bear spray on Rockies trails and follow trail closures.

- No car means most sights are out of reach: Ride CK has no evening or Sunday service.
- Museum hours are seasonal and short: Buxton runs May–Sep afternoons, Uncle Tom's Cabin is seasonal — check before you drive out.
- Distances between towns look small on the map but add up; plan two or three stops, not six.
- Winter brings snow and ice on rural roads; drive to conditions.
