Eastern Thailand is the Gulf coast closest to Bangkok: Pattaya, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Trat and the islands of Ko Samet and Ko Chang. It is the short-haul beach option when you have 3–5 days and do not want to fly south. The trade-off is that Ko Samet and Ko Chang are the developed islands; the smaller Trat islands are harder to reach and quieter.

Day-trips door to door
| To | From | Door-to-door p50 | Last return | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ko Samet | Bangkok | 210 min | check | Bus or minivan to Ban Phe, then a short ferry; allow half a day each way. |
| Ko Chang | Bangkok | 330 min | check | Road transfer plus ferry runs longer than 5 h 30; allow most of a day and do not book a same-day boat after a late arrival. |
| Pattaya | Bangkok | 120 min | check | Frequent buses and minivans; the easiest eastern leg. |
Bags between cities
Most hotels on Ko Samet and Ko Chang do not offer luggage forwarding; carry your bags on the ferry.

- The Gulf side takes most of its rain from May to October; November to February is the drier, cooler window and the peak for island beds.
Treat November to February as the dry window, but keep one spare day in the plan: rough weather can cancel island crossings.
