L'Ange-Gardien
Skip as a base. Give it half a day by car from Québec City: Avenue Royale heritage houses, a farm stop, then Île d'Orléans.
L'Ange-Gardien is a riverside village 17 km east of Québec City, on the Côte-de-Beaupré. It is not a destination in itself: it is a half-day on the New France route, with ancestral houses along Avenue Royale, pick-your-own farms and a waterfront park facing Île d'Orléans. Stay in Québec City or Boischatel and drive through.

About L'Ange-Gardien
L'Ange-Gardien is a municipality on the eastern edge of Quebec City, in Quebec, sitting on the St. Lawrence River across from Île d'Orléans. It lies along the Côte-de-Beaupré, roughly 17 km from Quebec City by road. The village core and most homes occupy a strip along the river, with hamlets including Dufournel, Petit-Pré and Lac la Retenue. Behind the shore, most of the land is forested and hilly, rising to the Laurentian foothills. The area is known for the renovated ancestral houses of Avenue Royale, agritourism, a resort area around Lac la Retenue below Mont du Curé-Gravel, and several regional tourist routes, among them the New France route and the creators' route.

- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- Canada ↗Visa-exempt travellers flying to or through Canada usually need an eTA; check your passport on the official Government of Canada site (canada.ca) and apply only there.
- Canada ↗A Parks Canada pass is needed to stop in national parks such as Banff and Jasper; some spots (for example Moraine Lake) are reached only by shuttle or tour, so book ahead.
- Canada ↗Keep well away from bears, elk and moose; carry bear spray on Rockies trails and follow trail closures.
