Go as a half-day from Québec City (25 min by car, 30 min by bus) for the basilica; sleep here only if you want the shrine at opening or Mont-Sainte-Anne skiing.
Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré is a village of about 2,850 people on the St Lawrence, 33 km east of Québec City, built around one enormous pilgrimage basilica. Almost everyone visits on a day trip from the city; the village itself is a strip of motels, diners and a wood-sculpture museum along Route 138. It works as a base only for the basilica at quiet hours or for Mont-Sainte-Anne, 15 min up the hill.

About Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré
Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré is a village of 2,850 people in the Côte-de-Beaupré County Regional Municipality, in the Quebec Region. It lies along the St Lawrence and faces the Île d'Orléans, with the Laurentian foothills rising behind a rolling agricultural landscape. The built-up plain reaches up to 1.7 km from the river on the Château-Richer side and 2.5 km on the Beaupré side, while most of the municipal territory is mountainous and forested. The village is known above all as a Catholic pilgrimage centre devoted to Saint Anne, patron saint of sailors, and it grew around its basilica. It is usually visited as a day trip from Québec City, 33 km away by road along Route 138.

Customs

The village is a 2 km strip along Route 138 and Avenue Royale: walkable end to end in about 25 min, but the basilica, the quay and the museum are spread out. A car is the practical choice; Intercar buses stop in the village on the Québec City–Baie-Comeau route. Taxi Mont-Ste-Anne (+1 418-827-5521) covers local hops.
