Major city · Philippines
Lipa
Give Lipa one full day: cathedral and public market in the Poblacion, then the Uptown malls along Ayala Highway. Skip the car downtown.
Lipa is Batangas' economic and religious centre, about midway between Manila and Batangas City, and the seat of the province's Catholic archdiocese. The old Poblacion is a rough Spanish-era street grid where walking beats driving; the newer Uptown strip along Ayala Highway (Jose P. Laurel Highway, Route 4) holds the big malls, restaurants and cafés. One day covers the centre; add a night if you want the Uptown nightlife or a slow morning over barako coffee.

Getting around
Jeepneys and tricycles reach most of the city; regional jeepneys and UV Express use the Lipa City Grand Terminal at SM City Lipa and the Robinsons Place Lipa terminal. Driving in the Poblacion is inadvisable — parking is scarce and pedestrians cross everywhere. Jeepneys also run to Mataasnakahoy (frequent, from Robinsons) and Balete (infrequent, from the Marawoy terminal).

Watch out
Safety
- Narrow Poblacion streets: park outside and walk, or take a jeepney or tricycle.
- Traffic chokes the Jose P. Laurel Highway between Tanauan and Malvar; the STAR Tollway is the faster option.
- Wet season runs May to December with a very short dry season; rain can flood low-lying roads.
