Estahbanاستهبان

Half a day is enough to see the waterfall and old mosque ruins; most travellers use it as a stop between Shiraz and points east, not a base.

Estahban is a small city in Fars province known for its dried figs, saffron and a few historical remnants from the Sassanid era. The main draw is the Sar Asiyab waterfall in the Estahban National Garden. Most visitors pass through on the road between Shiraz and Kerman or Yazd, spending a few hours rather than a full day.

Watch out

Safety

Estahban is safe for tourists, but follow general Iran travel advice: dress modestly, avoid political discussions, and carry a copy of your passport. The main risk is summer heat.
  • Prices in Iran are often quoted in tomans (1 toman = 10 rials); confirm the currency when paying.
  • The waterfall may be dry in summer; check locally before heading out.
  • Credit cards are not accepted; bring enough cash (Iranian rials) for your stay.
