    This is Sri Lanka's dry zone. Dec–Feb is the most comfortable window; Mar–May is the hottest stretch (35 °C (95 °F)+ and humid before the rains); Jun–Sep is workable but hot; the northeast monsoon brings rain Oct–Dec.

  • North Western Province: Kurunegala and inland · Southern half of the provincerainy

    Wetter southern half, roughly 2,000 mm a year; the southwest monsoon (May–September) is the rainy stretch. Temperatures average around 20 °C (68 °F) in January rising to about 25 °C (77 °F) in March.

  • North Western Province: Puttalam and the coast · Northern half, Kalpitiya to Dutch Bayrainy

    One of the driest parts of the island, under 1,100 mm in places. The dry season is the draw; the October–November rains are the weak window.
