No visa on arrival at land borders. Enter on the Vietnam e-visa (evisa.gov.vn) or a visa exemption; the e-visa must name an open land port. (check)
Entering Cambodia
Bavet · Bavet, Svay Rieng

- Yes
- E-visa accepted here
- Yes
Visa on arrival (pay the posted US dollar fee, refuse extras) or the Cambodia e-visa, which is accepted only at listed land posts. Fill the e-Arrival card online before you go. (check)
Visa answers are for most Western passports and change often. Check yours on entry check and the official e-visa site; for e-visas, the post must be on the country's list of accepted ports.
Getting across
- Through bus Ho Chi Minh City → Phnom Penh (several companies, from Phạm Ngũ Lão / District 1): one ticket, same bus both sides, 6–7 h.
- At the border you get off, walk through both halls with your bags, and re-board on the far side.
- Taxi to Mộc Bài (about 2 h from Saigon) and a shared taxi on to Phnom Penh works but costs more than the bus.
Scams and traps
- Bus staff collect passports and add a 'service fee' for the visa on arrival: fill the form yourself or hold an e-visa.
- Extra 'health check' or 'stamp' fees on the Cambodian side: ask for a receipt, smile, wait.
- Casino-town touts on the Bavet side selling onward rides at inflated prices.
Tips
- Hold the Cambodia e-visa before you go and the queue is short.
- Carry clean US dollar notes for the visa on arrival; small tears get refused.
- Your Vietnamese e-visa must be valid for the day you re-enter if you come back this way.
